2K Sports vice president of marketing Jason Argent told CNBC that the decision to pursue Jordan for the cover was inspired by their confidence in the fact that NBA 2K11 is “the best NBA video game ever made.”

“So we thought to ourselves,” Argent continued, “how can we embody that and there was only one person on that list who we wanted to have and that was Michael Jordan.” This certainly remains to be seen, however, Argent, rather humorously, went on to say that securing Jordan for the game “is the most ridiculous win of all-time.”

Jordan echoed these generous sentiments, saying, “It’s an honor to be featured on the cover of NBA 2K11,” before adding, “I’m looking forward to getting back on the court, virtually.”

While Jordan is expected to appear in the actual game in some capacity, 2K is obviously keeping those details under wraps for now. Although, 2K did reveal that the game will be available on October 5.
