GOD OF WAR 3 REVIEWS AROUND THE WEB

Aaah, God of War 3. Lets just all pretend that we have no idea how awesome this game will be. So we all look around for reviews from different websites because *insert sarcasm here* we are still thinking if we should get this game next week.

Gamespot - 9/10
God of War III sticks to the strengths already established by its predecessors, but what it lacks in innovation it more than makes up for in execution. The combat is simple to pick up, but the added moves and weapons give it more depth than before, and the spectacular visuals make fights even more brutal. But God of War III is so much more than its satisfying combat. The imaginative visual design and moody classical score balance your quest for vengeance with artistic pleasures, and the well-crafted puzzles further tap into your cerebral vein. God of War III is a brilliantly paced, meticulously detailed adventure that is sure to thrill and satisfy until the very end.
Eurogamer - 9/10
God of War III is much the same: a technical marvel, but with all the clever stuff turned towards the aim of very basic gratification. There are no branching paths, no complex decisions, and no multiplayer modes, but this particular game is all the better for it, since the results are rich and focused rather than drawn-out and a little ragged. Ultimately, if you want to revel in old-school pleasures decked out in the very brightest new armour, this is about as good as it gets.
Oh, and in case I didn't make this entirely clear, it includes the absolute best dog-kicking puzzle you'll ever see.
Gamepro - 4.5/5
God of War 3 is more than an action game: it’s the conclusion to a commercially successful and critically acclaimed series that acts as the ‘face’ of Sony’s entire gaming brand; what Master Chief is to Microsoft and Mario is to Nintendo, Kratos is to Sony. As such, God of War III was burdened with a Herculean set of tasks. But while it lives up to the high bar set by the previous installments, it can’t quite bear the weight of bringing the epic story of Kratos to a meaningful end. It’s still a finely crafted action experience that fully showcases the PS3's immense capabilities but it isn't the satisfying conclusion that fans both want and need.

1Up.com - A
In the past, I've referred to God of War 1 as having the best story in the franchise, and God of War 2 as the best on the combat side. Along those lines, God of War 3 is the most balanced. It's not quite as focused as GOW1, nor is it as lengthy and moment-packed as GOW2, but it's the most consistent and varied of the three, and when it's at its best the first two can't touch it.

You can undoubtedly find little details to complain about in God of War 3 (you can't skip cut-scenes even on a second playthrough, for instance, presumably to mask load times). But given how well everything fits together, how all of the items and weapons feel useful, how the Titan fights are some of the most impressive battles ever seen in games, how the animation and camera angles make the cut-scenes better than you see in most movies, how the combat grapple works incredibly well, and how the visuals almost make it worth playing on their own, I'm not really sure how much that kind of thing matters.
Destructoid - 10/10
Without question, God of War III sets the new gold standard for action games, clearing and then raising the near-impossible bar that was set by its previous installments. For many years to come, this will be the game by which all others in the genre are compared, and I suspect we won't see anything like it for quite some time. If God of War III was the reason you bought a PS3, your purchase has been justify and then some. If you're looking to show off the power of your console, this is your new showcase -- it's an experience that simply can't be missed.

Playstation Lifestyle - 5/5
God of War III is the ultimate climax to the most highly acclaimed franchise ever to grace PlayStation consoles. Kratos’ legacy of brutality and chaos ends with a remarkable bang. The game is brimming with unforgettable, jaw-dropping moments that will stay with you forever. As good as the previous God of War games were comparing them to God of War III is like comparing Mount Olympus to a single grain of sand. Kratos’ final journey is the crowning example of why we play video games. If you own a PlayStation 3, you owe it to yourself to play this game. If you don’t yet have a PlayStation 3, this is the reason to get one.

So, like Mass Effect 2 and Uncharted 2 before it, God of War III's one of those titles that will change the way you look at everything else. On its first attempt Santa Monica Studio seems to have wringed every ounce of power it possibly can from the hardware to provide a faultless (and unrivalled) presentation, while offering an unforgettable end to one of the greatest story arcs in years. The Dog's had its day: God of War III's a brutal, bone-shattering thrill-ride of an adventure, PlayStation 3's finest hour and quite possibly the greatest action title ever made.

Okay. I'm convinced. God of War 3 out in stores, March 16.
